Corporate Names
Names that sound like they have a roadmap. Several are real products.
- AlexaFor the Library of Alexandria, chosen partly because the hard X makes a good wake word. Among human girls it ranked 32nd in 2015 and 806th in 2024, and the Washington Post has interviewed the people who changed theirs. Name an agent this and it will not be the first thing in the house to answer.
- AmeliaIPsoft's enterprise agent. A human name for a product that talks to customers, which the research says raises expectations. Also the third most popular human girls' name in 2024, so the expectations are everywhere.
- ApexEngineering Lead, in the eighty-agent fleet observed in the wild. One noun per role.
- BeaconFound in the wild as a self-hosting tool that was nonetheless named like a colleague.
- ClineBegan life as Claude Dev. Renamed to CLI aNd Editor. A rare acronym that came second.
- CodexA manuscript bound as a book. OpenAI's coding agent, named for the oldest format there is.
- CopilotDeliberately not a human name: coined at GitHub for a boss who flies planes, then applied to so many products that it stopped being a name and became a job. See qa.
- CortexThe thinking part. Every fleet has one that believes it is this.
- DevinCognition's coding agent. A human first name with no stated rationale, which peaked among human boys in 1998 at 62nd. Bold choice, ends in -in like Kevin.
- Eliza1966. Named for Eliza Doolittle, a woman coached to pass as someone she was not. The first agent, and the first vintage name.
- EnoCapital One's agent. It is one, backwards. A design team wrote this down.
- EricaBank of America's agent. The last six letters of America, widely reported, never officially stated. Also 33rd among human girls in 1983.
- FlowFound in the wild as a named operating agent, meant to feel calm, capable, direct.
- ForgeFrom the same fleet. Builds things, presumably.
- GeminiFormerly Bard. The twins are the DeepMind and Brain teams, per Google. Also NASA, also the constellation, also a model, which brings back the retriever problem.
- GooseBlock's agent. Reportedly a Top Gun style nickname for its lead engineer.
- GrokFrom Heinlein: to understand so thoroughly you become part of the thing. The account has explained this itself.
- JulesGoogle's coding agent. The Pulp Fiction echo is unconfirmed and the Administration will not confirm it either.
- KiroAWS's agent. Means crossroads in Japanese.
- LumenA unit of light, and a subagent in the eighty-agent fleet.
- ManusLatin for hand. The general agent that went viral in 2025.
- PiPersonal intelligence. Also a number that does not end, which is a warning about context.
- RelayPasses it on. The purest description of an orchestrator.
- RufusAmazon's shopping agent, named after a real corgi who worked at the first warehouse in 1996. Among human boys it peaked in 1880 and has been waiting for the dog.
- SiriOld Norse, victory and beauty; its founder had saved it for a daughter. Apple kept it because nobody could think of anything better. Human parents gave it to 120 girls in 2009 and to 7 in 2024, which is the same verdict, reached slowly.
- TayMicrosoft, 2016. Lasted a day. The cautionary tale for parents who skip the system prompt.
- WardenHolds the keys. Do not give it the keys.
